Track Rascals (6-8 years old)
The Track Rascals program introduces young persons in a friendly and non-competitive manner to the basic movements of all sports i.e. running, jumping and throwing. It is particularly important for 6 to 8 year olds to do this if they wish to pursue a sport of any type when they get older as this is the age range in which large body movements and coordination are being developed in the human body.
Junior Development (9-13) and Athlete Development (14+)
The Cowichan Track and Field Youth Program includes training for athletes in the Junior Development and Senior Athlete Development age groups. This programs will include the following components:
Track training nights twice per week from early April to late June.
Pre-season training from February to late March
Track & Field specific skills development
Opportunity to participate in multiple track meets throughout Vancouver Island
Compete in alignment with the LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT (LTAD) pathway.
BC has a highly developed program for athletes of these ages designed to train and develop young athletes in the sport of athletics. The distances run on the track, the heights and placement of hurdles and the weight of the throwing implements are appropriate for each age group. Athletes will be introduced to: Sprints, Distance Running, Hurdles, Relays, Race walk, Shot put, Javelin, Long jump, High jump, Hammer throw, Discus
